Nails & Novels - April 2020

Hi everyone,

For the month of April I think we’re in need of a light, happy, funny, springtime novel. Currently since we can’t provide any services I won’t be recommending a manicure with your book from Brun, but rather a couple at home, self-care things you can do for your hands in this time. To start off though, our book of the month is “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion.

The Rosie project is a romantic comedy that follows an autistic man named Don. Don decides that he is tired of wasting his time with women who he eventually finds flaws in so he creates an extremely detailed and personal questionnaire to try to acquire the perfect woman. The questions are outrageously specific and sometimes personal and he will not waver from this scientific experiment of his, often causing uncomfortably hilarious situations. When a woman named Rosie comes into his life and needs his help he reluctantly agrees while knowing that she does not check the boxes on his ideal woman. Following their story is sure to make you laugh out loud. This book is really fun and awkwardly romantic and definitely one of my favorite books.

In order to get your hands on a copy of this book while continuing your social distancing there are a few options, some of which will still support some local businesses within Victoria. Munro’s Books, only a few doors down from Brun Body Bar, is doing contactless pick up as well as delivery. You can order books through them then go and pick them up in a safe, contact-less way or you can order direct from them and have your books delivered. Russell Books is doing delivery with free shipping over $50 of purchases or are also offering a contact-less pick up. If you’re not interested in either of these options you can always go the audiobook route and join audible online for many book options in audiobook format.

Now that you’re feeling like settling into a new novel, you shouldn’t skip your mani self-care. Since we’re unable to do your service for you this month here are a few things you can do at home to take care of your nails while they wait for us. At the end of a warm shower use the fingertip (not the nail) of your thumb (your strongest finger) to gently push your cuticles back. The end of the shower is the most ideal since the warm water will soften your cuticles while you wash your hair. Once your cuticles are pushed back massage some cuticle oil into them. If you don’t have any cuticle oil send a message to Brun Body Bar to get a bottle delivered to you, and while you’re at it pick up some Hempz lotion to give yourself a relaxing hand massage. (There will be a minimum free delivery cost, send Brun a message and let us know if you’re interested in an order!) My favorite Hempz is the Coconut and Watermelon, however, the Original and Green Tea and Asian Pear are the most popular and mild smelling. Apply the lotion to your hands and use your thumb to knead the palms of your opposing hand. Try drawing small circles on your fingers as you squeeze and pull on them, working your way from knuckle to fingertip. Don’t forget to knead between your fingers as well, especially focusing on the space between your forefinger and your thumb.

We hope that during this time you’re keeping some sense of normalcy to your life and aren’t forgetting to take care of yourself. Everyone at Brun misses you all and we’re so happy that everyone is taking the right steps to keep our community safe. We can’t wait to see you all again at the end of this. Stay safe.

Yours truly,

Jade
