Nails and Novels - October 2019
Welcome to the first “Nails and Novels” post! I’m your little host, Jade. This is going to be a monthly post where I recommend one of my favorite books to you as well as a nail polish that is in this season and goes along with the vibe of the book. Without further ado, let’s get to October’s recommendations.
To kick start this segment off I want to recommend one of my all-time favorite books which is written by a Canadian author (woo woo!) from Toronto. The basis of this short novel is that Hermes and Apollo, two cheeky Gods, have an argument and decide to give 15 dogs the same level of intelligence that humans have and watch throughout their lives to see if they can die happy with this new “gift”. Although this is dogs we are talking about, the author delves deeply into some of our most human faults and inflates societal issues within one character. This story will leave you having a new perspective on authority and group mentalities as well as the usefulness of language and even dives into prejudice and bigotry. Although there are some deep themes to this, there is also some genuine warmth and happiness throughout the book that will bring you through ups and downs. You will feel anger, happiness, sadness, fear and contemplation as you read this book. At only 171 pages you can whip this book out no problem this month!
To go along with this serious yet playful book I have chosen OPI, “Suzi needs a Loch-Smith” for this month’s nail color. This perfectly deep, fall orange tone is right on trend falling closely in with the “rust” tones that have been so popular. It not only has a deep, contemplative, lady-like feel to it, but it also happens to match this book perfectly. Come in for a manicure this month with Taylor, Rachel or myself to try this color out for yourself!
